Indian Wedding Invitations Orlando

Indian Destination Wedding in Orlando Florida | Wedding

When newly married Shivani Lad, 25, sent out her wedding invitations two months ago, the first invitation went to the Hindu god Shrinathji.

The ornately decorated gray-blue invitation was embossed in silver with the elephant deity Ganesh, a god whom Hindus pray to before any good deed or ceremony. As is the custom, one invitation was delivered to the Hindu temple first and then to specific family members in a certain order before being sent out en masse.

Formerly Shivani Patel, Lad was wed to Yateen Lad, 30, on May 28 after a two-hour traditional Hindu ceremony at the Radisson Worldgate Resort near Kissimmee. More than 600 family members and friends from Orlando, Kissimmee and Tampa attended, plus family from across the United States, Canada, England, Africa and India.

The invitation was the first step in an extensive array of ceremonies and rituals that took place before and during the event.

Lad, who was born in Kenya and reared in the United States, said having a Hindu wedding was a way to keep her Indian heritage and its traditions alive.

"I always wanted to have a Hindu wedding, " said Lad, who lives with her new husband in Tampa. "There are so many different cultures in this country. I just wanted to keep our culture. I hope our kids will follow it, too."

Marriage in the Hindu religion is seen as a karmic intertwining of souls that continues throughout multiple lifetimes. The purpose of the marriage is for the couple to help each other progress spiritually.

Culturally speaking, the marriage represents a union of families. As such, family plays a pivotal role in all aspects of the wedding.

"Everybody is involved in it, " said Himaxi Patel, who with husband and uncle of the bride, Dr. Barry Patel, was the host for many of the pre-wedding events at their home in Celebration.

Each step of the wedding process, from the mailing of invitations to the marriage itself, is scheduled on favorable days and times according to the Hindu religious calendar.

"Everything has to be timed astrologically, even the entrance of the groom, " Himaxi Patel said.

The Lad pre-wedding festivities began with a meet-and-greet between the couple's families. Food and sweets are typically exchanged while the two families get to know each other, Himaxi Patel said.

The kickoff ceremony to the marriage began three days before the big event with a "mehndi party" attended by women and girls on the bride's side. Guests ate and sang while Lad's hands and feet were decorated with ornate patterns of reddish-brown henna.

Okay, some questions. Here is the situation with our (maybe) caterer.
We asked our favorite Indian restaurant if they would cater for us. They said yes. They have catered before, but not for something as fancy as a wedding. (please note that our wedding, while not fancy, is going to be elegant)
We asked what they could do. Basically, they are going to bring over the big dishes/warmer tin things and set them up. It is going to be buffet, and they even have cards to set up saying exactly what everything is and how spicy. They are going to get us fresh coffee from India also, which has yummy spices in it
